Letter Writing
In November, children learn how to write letters. We focus on friendly letters and persuasive letters. We make sure that our letters begin with a beginning and end with a closing. Children read their letters with partners to make sure their writing makes sense, has conventions and includes details.
Every morning we have a mail person go down to the office to send letters out and to check the classroom mailbox. We receive letters from other classes, our principal, other teachers, friends from other schools, grandparents and sometimes we get mail from around the world!
This year we will also write to our pen-pals in Connecticut. Children will continue with the pen-pal writing throughout the year.

Pen-Pals in Connecticut
This year we will have special pen-pals that are from my hometown in Connecticut. My cousin is in the 1st grade and I have talked with her teacher about setting up a pen-pal schedule for the year. We just sent our first GIANT letter to their class. The kids decided to talk about all the animals in Wyoming and tell the kids about the forest fire. The kids in her class will write individual letters to us. We will formally start a letter unit in November and this will be a great way to warm up.
