Conferences are this week. I'm looking forward to meeting with you all. There is no school on Friday
Reminder: We will be away on a field trip tomorrow. We are traveling to town to visit the dentist and we'll learn about healthy teeth. We are leaving school at 11:50 and plan to return to school around 2pm.
We will start Unit 4 of Reading Street!
Phonics Skill: Long vowel pattern ai, ay
Possessives: These words are contractions. They are made up of two words. The apostrophe and the s in the world girl’s means that something belongs to the girl. Example: Ben’s bat, Dad’s truck, birds’ song
White Board work words: braid, main, say, May rain
Fluency: Read with expression. Quotation marks show that someone is talking. You should read the words within the quotation marks the way the character would say them.
Monitor and Fix up: When I read, I ask myself if the words and sentences make sense. If I do not understand something, it is important to reread and review what I have read in order to make sense of the text.
Draw Conclusions: Good readers use the words, pictures , and what they know about real life to figure out more about the characters and what happens in a selection.
In Writing Workshop:
We finished our expository writing unit and we're ready to move on. This week we will look back at narrative writing. We will write real stories from our lives and we will stretch them out. Next week we will start our revision unit. I saved small moments from the beginning of the year. The children will get to revisit their old writing and we will learn how to revise.
Expert Book Share: The kids would like to share their writing with you. I will make a schedule for an Author's Share. I will plan to do this the week before spring break.
