THIS WEEK IN FIRST GRADE
I hope you all had a relaxing holiday with your family. My trip back east was wonderful. It was great spending time with my parents and brother. I can't believe how quickly the months go by.
***Winter Sports starts on Tuesday, 1/11/11 and runs for 5 weeks. Don’t forget to send the appropriate equipment and warm clothing with your child Monday morning. You should drop off skis and poles in front of the school in the morning. Be sure that everything is labeled with your child’s name. There will be no hot lunch on Tuesdays. We will be eating in our classrooms at 11:00 so please pack your child a lunch. We will try to leave school by 11:35 and return by 3:00. Times may vary by sport.
In Reading Workshop, we will finish unit 2 of Reading Street. Book bags will be sent home (Monday-Thursday). Please make sure the book bags are returned daily.

High Frequency words: their, new, family, other, some, also

Amazing Words: individual, industrious, special, creep, slither, romp, eagerly, wander
In Writing Workshop, we will wrap up our letter-writing unit. We will send our last batch of letters out into the real world. The kids are waiting for people to write them back. This unit has been very exciting and every child has enjoyed our classroom post office. We will leave our post office open for the rest of the year so children can continue writing on their own time. :)
In Spelling, we will continue to do word sorts. Children will bring home their sorts on Friday. Ask your child about the no peeking sort and speed sort. I’m sure they’d love to show you over the weekend!
In Math, we will start unit 5.
