In Reading Workshop:

Phonics Skill: Long vowel pattern: oa and ow , example:  Boat, grow

Three-letter Blends: We will learn about words that have three consonant letters at the beginning.  Example:  scream, splash

White Board work words: boat, grow, mow, soap, float, three, spray, strip, splint, spring, string

High Frequency Words: wild, mouth, once, took, found

Amazing Words: abandon, fossil, nourish, decompose, excavate, soil, splinter, sunken

Fluency:  Read with expression.   Quotation marks show that someone is talking.  You should read the words within the quotation marks the way the character would say them.

Comprehension:  Author’s Purpose:  Authors write for different reasons.  Authors may write to entertain readers or give information.  Sometimes authors write for more than one reason.

Monitor and Fix up:  When I come to a word I don’t know, I use the glossary or dictionary to find the meaning.  Then I reread to see if the word makes sense in the story.
