In Reading Workshop:
Phonics Skill: Long vowel pattern: ie and igh ex. Light, lie
Kn /n/ and wr /r/: We’ll learn about other letters that stand for /n/ and /r/. Example: knit, wrap
White Board work words: light, lie, night, tried, thigh, flights, knit, wrap, knight, know, knife, wrist, wrote
High Frequency Words: wild, mouth, once, took, found
Amazing Words: delightful, festive, symbol, memory, errands, fiesta, ordinary, refreshments
Fluency: Read with accuracy, rate ad expression. Quotation marks tell me that someone is speaking. I try to read the part in quotation marks the way the character would say it.
Comprehension: Realism and Fantasy: As you read, notice things in the story that real people say and do. Ask yourself if everyone in the story could really happen.
Monitor and Fix up: When I come to a word I don’t know, I use the glossary or dictionary to find the meaning. Then I reread to see if the word makes sense in the story.
In Math we will learn how to:
- Identify shapes having line symmetry.
-Create line-symmetric shapes.
Review for Unit 7 Math Test (Kids took a self assessment this morning) I will send these self assessments home with their unit test. Please go over them and their test. Some kids might say that they know one skill and can teach it to a friend but on the test got that answer wrong. This is a great way to go over the test with your child. Thanks.
We will also start Unit 8
-Express the value of combinations of coins.
-Show amounts of money with the fewest number of coins.
-Write number sentences using the symbols +, -, =
-Express amounts of money using dollars-and –cents notation.
-Identify a dollar and know its value.
-Make exchanges between coins.
In Science, we will continue to discuss matter. Last week discussed the properties of liquids. This week we will finish up liquids and will do some experiments with bits and pieces. They might move like liquids but they are actually solids. These are some messy but fun experiments.
