This Week in First Grade
We are constantly washing our hands to stay healthy. If you’d like to donate hand sanitizer and tissues please send them in with your child.
In Reading Workshop, we will start unit two of Reading Street. The kids have been eager to see their new hardcover book! This new unit focuses on communities. I will integrate many social studies standards into our reading lessons and we will get to learn about our own community. The kids are going to love it. Book bags will be sent home three times this week. (Monday-Wednesday). Please make sure the book bags are returned daily.
In Writing Workshop, we will continue to write about small moments. Students are discovering what small moments are and how we can stretch these moments across several pages. Today we talked about grading rubrics and focused on idea development. Children are learning how to write a focused small moment. We looking at our writing today and picked a small moment out of it! This was a huge success.

Swimming: Next week is our first week of swimming. Please remember to sign the permission slip and turn it in asap. Here is a list of things your child needs: bathing suit, towel, warm hat to wear back to school (wet hair). Optional: swim goggles. Please bring these things in some sort of bag inside their backpack (a plastic shopping bag will do) so theydon’t have to bring their backpack. It’s a goodidea for them to wear their swimsuit under their clothes to school since we go first thing (just be sure to pack undies). Our daily schedule will change to accommodate swim lessons.
