This Week in First Grade
Star of the week started this week. Addie is our first student to be the start. She shared her poster with us all this morning and will bring in a share for tomorrow. This week she will also have Snowy at home. Snowy is our stuffed animal dog that visits each child’s house. He usually goes home with a student on Monday and is returned to class on Friday. Each child/parent can then take the time to write a journal entry in our Snowy journal.
In Reading Workshop, we will continue to learn our Reading Workshop routines. Students have been working with partners, independently, and in small groups to learn new skills and strategies. This week we will revisit some of last week’s songs and stories.
In Writing Workshop, we will learn and practice:
· Stretching our stories
· Using booklets
· How to use the Alphabet chart as a writing tool
· Adding details to our writing
· Using lowercase letters
In Math, we will practice:
· How to use a number line
· Exploration with geoboards, 10 base blocks and pattern blocks
· Number Stories
We will finish up Unit 1 of Math and we’ll have a unit review and test on Thursday/Friday. Next week we will Start Unit 2.
