Class Motto

Picture
As a class we came up with our class mission and motto. The kids worked together and made a visual representation of our class motto.  It is up on display in our K-1 hallway.

Continuous Classroom Improvement

Picture
These are the Reading standards for Grade one.  I have shared the standards with the children and we have a visual hanging near our green carpet.  Whenever we are working on one of the standard the children will have the opportunity to go and place the green arrow on the specific standard that is being taught.  We will be referring to this visual throughout the year, specifically during Reading Workshop lessons as well as Comprehension Toolkit lessons.

Strategic Learning Goal

Picture
This is our learning goal for the year.  It will be measured by DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills)  Our goal is to have all children read at the first grade level or above by June 2011.  Children will be taking the Dibels test in September, January and June.  The benchmark will increase with each test.  In June, all children will be reading 40 correct words per minute or above and will be reading 50 or more sounds when reading nonsense words.  Nonsense words are words that do not make sense.  Some examples:  sim, lut, bot
