Reading Essentials Unit 3
Retell, Sequence and Plot
I feel that this unit has a wonderful flow to it. We start off talking about retell which then guides us to order and sequence which then brings us to the larger comprehension piece called plot. We take our time exploring books, creating useful anchor charts and learn through gradual release. At this point in the year, the children are ready to own their learning and want to do what I model right away. I just love it! We are exploring graphic organizers and are reading more challenging books. Below you will find our essential questions, anchor charts and examples of student work.
Retell
Sequence
Plot
Children have been working with retelling the order of events. Students are now able to use the words first, next, then and last to sequence a story. Last week the children learned a new word called Plot. We have been talking about what happens in the beginning, middle and end but didn't know the term. Children watched me as I figured out the plot and then we figured out the plot of another story. This week children interacted with graphic organizers to help them organize their thought.
